  41. The A.P.D.L. catalogue is rather large! In fact if you de-arc all the
  42. files you will find it comes to nearly 2 megabytes. This massive amount
  43. of data is split into several text files. The most important are :-

  45.    APDL Info  - Instructions on 'how to order', prices, services, and
  46.                 general information about APDL. If you haven't
  47.                 previously ordered from APDL read this file!
  48.  
  49.    Main Cat   - All the main applications, utilities, and 'useful'
  50.                 programs of all types.
  51.  
  52.    Games Cat  - Games and novelties, including educational games
  53.  
  54.    CD's/Books - APDL and other low cost CDs plus many of the popular
  55.                 Dabs Press books at discout prices.
  56.  
  57.    DTP Cat    - Desktop Publishing. Clip art and various other artwork.
  58.  
  59.    Graphics   - Various pictures and graphics files. Some of these are
  60.                 Spritefiles, others are in 'foreign' formats such as
  61.                 GIF, TIFF, etc. Plus a new section of Fantasy pictures
  62.  
  63.    Sounds Cat - Tracker, Digital Symphony and Maestro tunes. These
  64.                 aren't sold by the disc but individually so you don't
  65.                 have to buy a discfull to get the one or two that you
  66.                 want. This section also contains Coconizer and Sound
  67.                 Sample discs.

  69.    Commercial - Commercial software and including some mainstream
  70.                 games and programs at very low prices, David Pilling
  71.                 discs, Smart DTP, etc. Also many demonstration versions
  72.                 of commercial software

  74.    Demo/Mags  - Disc based magazines and 'Demo' programs, graphics
  75.                 demo's, etc.

  77.    PC + PB    - PC programs to be run under the PC emulator or on a
  78.                 'real' PC. Plus a collection of programs for the Psion
  79.                 Series 3/3a and Pocket Book notebook computers

  81.    Careware   - 'Archive' magazine Careware discs - proceeds go to

  84.    Indiv Cat  - Individual programs. Most of the programs in the 'Main',
  85.                 'Games' and 'Demo' catalogue appear here and can be
  86.                 purchased individually as well as on compilation discs.

  88.    Literature - Various Public Domain texts. Some are individual files,
  89.                 others are complete discs or compilation discs. Contains
  90.                 many classical novels and out-of-copyright works eg.
  91.                 Chaucer, Shakespeare, etc.

  93.    For Sale   - Secondhand hardware and software for sale or wanted. You
  94.                 can have your own ad for your surplus stuff included.

  96.    FLI Movies - FLI format digitised films as used on the PC. Can be used
  97.                 with viewers on B181 or B237

  99.    GIF pics   - Thousands of high quality pictures, mainly in GIF format,
  100.                 ported from the PC. Owing to the large number of files
  101.                 available this has it's own ordering program '!GIForder'.

  103.  In the archive 'Hardware' -
  104.  
  105.    HardDiscs  - Hard disc drives and interfaces, including Syquest drives
  106.                 and cartridges. Probably the cheapest hard discs
  107.                 available anywhere for Acorn computers.

  109.    CD Drives  - Various CD ROM drives for Acorn machines including some
  110.                 special low price special packages from APDL
  111.  
  112.    RiscPC RAM - SIMM RAM for the Risc PC at the usual APDL low prices,
  113.                 plus part exchange deals for your old RAM

  117.    PC List    - An archive containing lots of files of PC PD and
  118.                 Shareware programs we have available, far too numerous
  119.                 to put into a 'proper' catalogue so they are just listed
  120.                 with their filename and a few words of description. All
  121.                 supplied as compressed '.ZIP' or '.ARJ' files with a
  122.                 copy of PKUNZIP or ARJ on each disc. Instructions for
  123.                 decompressing are in the file '?Unzip'. These are all
  124.                 priced individually and have their own ordering program
  125.                 '!PCorder'. Please see the file '!Read 1st' in the
  126.                 PC_List archive before ordering these. In fact the list
  127.                 supplied with the 'normal' catalogue is only a part of
  128.                 what we have available. If you want the full list (on
  129.                 3x800K or 2x1.6Mb discs) then please send £1.50 and ask
  130.                 for the full PC catalogue

  133. These catalogue files are compressed using !ArcFS, a copy of which is
  134. provided on the catalogue disc. The compressed file will look rather
  135. like a directory folder. Just double-click on the one you want and it
  136. will 'open' like a normal directory. You can then load the file into
  137. !Edit or whatever text editor you prefer to use.
  138.  
  139. You can use your text editor's 'search' facility to find a particular
  140. program or simply browse. If you want to print out part of the catalogue
  141. you can easily do so.

  143. You will find a program called !Order on the catalogue disc. This is
  144. designed to make it easier for you to order discs. You can choose almost
  145. anything we sell with a mouse click and it will work out the prices,
  146. calculate all your Bonus points, and even print out your order.

  150. IMPORTANT - The PC 'ZIP' and GIF files are not incorporated into the
  151. !Order program. This is because there are rather a lot of them and they
  152. are not of interest to everyone. There are two other programs, !PCOrder
  153. and !GIForder, which can be used for these. If want to order these files
  154. 'manually' please, *PLEASE*, be sure to copy the filename EXACTLY as
  155. it's shown in the list and specify which catalogue file it was taken
  156. from (Business, Utils, etc.). If you're writing rather than typing use
  157. block capitals and 'slash' zeros and make sure that easily confused
  158. characters like Z's and 2's, 5's and S's etc. are clearly defined.

  160. It will take you only a few seconds to do this properly and carefully,
  161. but we have over 10 Gigabytes (thats 10,000 Megabytes) of compressed PC
  162. files. It can take AGES to find a file if you are careless in writing
  163. your order. Please help us to give you a quick, efficient service.
